Furnishing an illustrator's studio

After months of daydreaming and intense financial calculations, I decided to make the biggest step forward to rent a little studio to focus on illustration and art in September 2016. Most probably the next big decision and gamble to the one I made 4 years back, which was to move to Tokyo to pursue an adventure.

Pigeonhole is situated in Higashi-Nakano, sandwiched between Shinjuku and otaku-town-Nakano. Although the studio is nothing near glamourous and situated on ground level of an old apartment building, it's a clean simple space for all creatives to come by for tea, engage in conversations and a space for occasional art/craft workshops for small groups of 4.

I realised there weren't many references to studio spaces, simple yet affordable furnishings suitable for illustrators and creatives online so I decided to do a simple post on the furnishings of Pigeonhole.

(Well, most pieces are from IKEA (otherwise stated)... but I hope this post will save you of all from the trouble of going through the IKEA website a million times like I did.)

KRILLE Legs on wheels works well for fickle-minded people like me who loves shifting things around the room.

Alternatively, a pair of adjustable OLOV legs are also worth a thought because the height of the legs can be adjustable accordingly to your liking.

The little book corner with a compact LIXHULT cabinet keeps my books free from dust and dirt.

Keeping all your essential tools and paints near you without crowding your desk with RASKOG kitchen wagon.

For all your documents with HELMER chest of drawers  and a used IKEA floor lamp that doubles up as a desk lamp that I got from a garage sale.

Pardon the wire mess!

The desk put together with KRILLE legs and LINNMON 200cm table top with a laptop stand with BRADA laptop support

Bought this leather arm chair for a fraction of the price with a shipping leadtime of 7 days from Amazon Japan.

Gadgets on my desk, kept minimal.

With tons of IKEA HACK ideas online, (IKEA HACKERS, Poppytalk to name a few that I love) the possibilities are endless and you get to customize and build pieces that is best suited to your needs and budget.

Would you have any recommendations or ideas to furnishing a creative studio? What's in your studio? Let me know! :)
