Pottery for the first time
I had my first pottery session with YOC at her pottery studio in Tsuruse Saitama, an hour away from downtown Tokyo.
YOC has been doing pottery for more than 10 years since high school and she's so passionate about it that she say the clay's her soulmate in life. I was briefed on the basics of pottery and got introduced to her kilns and tools she uses to make her dainty Japanese pieces for craft shows and events.
I managed to make 2 small plates, 1 mini salad bowl and a mug, all under her supervision and guidance. With that one session, I am determined to make pottery my new hobby because the entire process is very surprisingly therapeutic!
Being brought up in Singapore, I was never introduced to pottery. And in contrast here in Japan, it's not an unusual scene. So imagine jumpy excited Singaporeans in suburban Japan with a calm and passionate potter.
Now that I have tried my hands on molding my plates and cups, YOC will be doing the firing and painting for me. The next thing I can't wait to learn about is painting them!
